New Zealand is not a backwater country when it comes to automobiles. From the 1920s through to the end of the century, we assembled thousands of cars designed by Ford, GM, Holden, etc. All of these cars were imported from overseas in CKD form with 25-30% of the parts being locally made. However, when it comes to cars that were designed and built in this country, many will be left scratching their heads. When pressed, the car buffs amongst us will remember the Trekka and probably stop there.
In this book, Patrick Harlow has discovered over 80 cars that were at one stage designed in this country. Some never made it past the concept phase, while others made it out the factory. Some even became famous on the world stage, such as the McLaren and Saker. Sadly, until now, most of them have been forgotten. Through this book, Patrick hopes to correct that.
