This stunning survey starts with a body of work entitled Photographers Posed, first initiated by Solkaer in 1993 while he attended FAMU, the Photo and Film Academy in Prague. Soren created some amazing images in this series as he documented master photographers such as Jan Saudek, Anton Corbijn and Shanta Rao, each captured in their own photographic style, utilizing their specific methods and materials. This self-apprenticeship exposed Solkaer to the minds and methodologies of 45 of the worlds top photographers. Eventually he went on to shoot portraits around the world in his own signature style; photographing the most iconic rock and pop stars on the planet, Yogis in Rajasthan India, fans at a Roskilde music festival and creating a high-concept series documenting street artists around the world. Portraits 1993 2018 is published on the occasion of Sren Solkaers exhibition at the Museum of Natural History in Denmark in January 2018. Constantly at the center of much-deserved controversy, the rag has been decried as pornography, bought and unexpectedly dropped by Larry Flynt of the Hustler empire, and credited as the genesis of the Jackass universe; it was also the champion of unknown skaters and featured some of today’s biggest names in skate culture when they were just children. Now author Sean Cliver puts a bow on the publication with The Big Brother Book, a collection of covers and spreads from every issue of the notorious publication. Featuring high-quality scans of the magazine itself — no production or layout files remain in existence — with just enough text to explain what’s going on and choice quotes from each issue, this book makes it easy as well as fun to stoop to Big Brother’s level. The Big Brother Book contains adult content and is recommended for ages 18 and up. Bind: hardback Pages: 224 Dimensions: 304 x 304 mm Publication Date: 14-03-2016 |

Their use spread with the expansion of commercial advertising in the 1820s; production was mechanized and new types with increased visibility were created. In addition to dated products, series of surprisingly “modern” types were developed that could be com-pared with those generated by the “new” digital typography. This republication of the 1860s catalogue “Specimen de caracteres en bois de la maison Bonnet” demonstrates that letters, like buildings, incarnate the spirit of an age, while preserving a timeless quality that constitutes a lasting source of inspiration. In 1985, Berkeley-based graphic design company Emigre, the publisher of the legendary design magazine of the same name, launched one of the first independent digital type foundries to explore the new design possibilities offered by the MacIntosh computer. To announce each of their new typeface releases, Emigre published small booklets displaying the virtues of the fonts and revealing the processes used to design them. By creating specific contexts, many of these so called “type specimens” went beyond being simple sales tools. In fact the Emigre booklets were meant to be enjoyed as much for the typefaces as for their esoteric content. Emigre broke rules and raised eyebrows, winning them both world-wide acclaim and much criticism. Ultimately, Emigre’s typefaces came to define an era. They were one of the first digital type foundries to sell typefaces online, and they created the model for hundreds of small foundries who followed in their footsteps. Five of Emigre’s digital typefaces were included in MoMAs permanent design collection. The type specimens featured in this book are a selection of some of Emigre’s most memorable productions of the past 30 years.
